It Must Be Haunted! Victorian, Historian, and the Spooky Whyzzit

 Ever notice how, in much literature and cinema, haunted house frequently look Victorian?  Think of the House in Crimson Peak; Victorian gothic much or anything?   So what is it about houses of that era that gives us the willies pretty much from the get-go?  Well, there’s history in that mystery, with details that include Queen Victoria, the Victorian era’s unabashed connection with death, and social change that left the decorative style of the Victorian era to rot.
